The comprehensive standards presented in this document represent more than a collection of best practices—they constitute a roadmap for institutional transformation that recognizes gender diversity and inclusivity as fundamental to the educational mission. From the first moment a prospective student encounters an institution through admissions processes, to the daily experiences of learning, living, and working on campus, to the ongoing relationships maintained with alums and the broader community, these standards provide a framework for embedding gender inclusivity into every aspect of institutional life.
Standard 3: Admissions Practices and Culture
Standard 4: Curriculum and Pedagogy
Standard 5: Student Life and Co-Curricular Engagement
Standard 6: Intersectionality
Standard 7: Recruiting and Retaining Gender-Expansive Employees
Standard 8: Institutional Policies and Practices
Standard 9: Campus Spaces
Standard 10: Administrative and Academic Offices, Centers, and Departments

Standard 12: Data Collection and Assessment
Standard 13: Executive Search Firms
Note: The Standards in this manuscript begin with standard number “three,” so as to align with a forthcoming book, Gender Inclusiveness and Belonging in Higher Education. The book will include a chapter that focuses on the same topic as each of the eleven standards. We’ve chosen to start the standards numbering here so the standard numbers align with the book chapter numbers.
